Kelly signed his first professional contract, alongside four other Derby County academy graduates on 8 July 2010.[2] He had previously played for the club's academy side and had made one substitute appearance in the Reserve side during a 2–1 home defeat to Macclesfield Town reserves on 28 October 2009.[3] The day after signing his first professional deal, Kelly joined League of Ireland Premier Division side Bray Wanderers on a four month loan deal.[4] He made his debut with a start in a 4–0 defeat away to University College Dublin on 16 July 2010 and kept his place for the next game, a 0–3 home defeat to Bohemians.[5] Upon his return to Derby County, Kelly failed to even earn a spot on the first team bench and his contract was terminated five months early by mutual consent in January 2011.[6] On January 30 Kelly signed for Bray Wanderers
